BALD CYPRESS TREE HABITAT RESTORATION

Within every location, contains a story. The tale of our Bald Cypress trees go way back to the times before our park was established. Most of the bald cypress in southern Florida were harvested by the lumber industry by the 1940s leaving only isolated strands of cypress that were too difficult for loggers to reach. This devastated the bald cypress habitat. Years later more bald cypress trees were destroyed by salt water intrusion, leaving the habitat almost demolished.

The goal of Jonathan Dickinson State Park staff and also with the help from Friends of JDSP is to help rebuild this habitat located on our property. The goal is to plant 63 acres of bald cypress. This absolutely cannot be done without the help of our community. Through generous donations, and wonderful volunteers, we hope to meet this goal sooner rather than later. And now, we need YOU!

Camp Murphy MTB TRAIL MAINTENANCE

Camp Murphy MTB is the mountain biking sub committee of, that maintains over nine miles of off-road mountain bike trails at the Camp Murphy trail system, located within Jonathan Dickinson State Park.  Volunteers share their passion for biking, and a large welcoming MTB community evolved.

Camp Murphy MTB has a large following of passionate mountain bikers and award winning riding trails! As such we have to keep those trails maintained and kept up. Working with shell rock and heavy equipment, volunteers are out on the trails 2x a week keeping up with the maintenance, maintenance that is not cheap to say the least. We rely on donors, such as yourselves to help us keep our mountain biking trails in tip-top shape for all to enjoy and use.
